Introduction to Graphic Design

Introduction to Graphic Design (VIS 207) is a required class for all Newhouse students, teaching the principles of visual communications as well as graphic design strategies and tools, focusing on typography, layout, image editing and production. Projects are all created on different Adobe applications, helping us become proficient.

The first assignment of this course was using Indesign to create a logotype of my name with a font that illustrates my personality and to include it in my resume. The main focus was to choose appropriate fonts that work cohesively and create a visually appealing layout.

Using Photoshop, this assignment was to create a campaign and event with a motion on the poster. My anti-smoking campaign depicts the smoke from a cigarette after being lit and then put out on top of a cigarette pack.

This assignment was to create a magazine on a topic of my choice on Indesign, so I created a Formula 1 magazine for enthusiasts of all levels. The requirements were to create a magazine cover, a jump spread design, a feature article with an infographic and an ad.

A requirement for the feature article was an infographic which was to be created from scratch. I created this infographic using Photoshop and external resources to get icons of all the cars Lewis Hamilton has raced in since the beginning of his F1 career with McLaren.

The last assignment of this course was to convert the magazine into a mobile version, an UI design using Adobe XD. The requirements were to include a feature story, three additional article, have multiple flows and an interactive page.
